Courage
your bravery is honored in therapy. The world is full of people without the courage to see, accept and deal with their issues. The same courage that brought you to therapy needs to accompany you during our work together as you take one step at a time towards your goals.
Compassion
your story, thoughts and feelings will be heard- perhaps deeply for the first time. There is a powerful cathartic gift when someone’s pain is heard and acknowledged.
Trust/Honesty
it’s asking a lot from you to share your problems with someone you do not know. Trust is built and I’ll endeavor to gain that through our time together. Trust can facilitate unrestrained honesty which is essential to deeper levels of awareness and growth.
Collaboration
Our work together is a joint-venture. We’ll explore the origins and dynamics of your problem and seek solutions. The answers we seek are inside of you. We need them to be successful. I’ll bring the best of interdisciplinary knowledge to support you but do not be surprised if the path towards hope and healing was always within you- dismissed because it came from you. We all do this.
Competence
You deserve the best evidence-based therapy to treat your problem. I’ve been trained at the most renowned Cognitive Behavioral Institute in the world. That being said, if you have a problem better treated by a colleague, I will facilitate that referral.
Determination
I’ll need you to participate in therapy like an athlete trains for a major competition. One session every week or two is not enough to bring you to the place I’m inviting you. Therapy is an everyday focus requiring you to engage in practices that- when done consistently- yield powerful results. Accountability will be built into our process through session action plans and follow-ups.
Flexibility
When you come to therapy with the attitude, “There’s a way through this and I’ll find it” – you’re in the right place. Not everything we try will be effective- not even the best evidenced-based practices. Flexibility and willingness to try something else is important.
